Terus terang, saya tidak menyukai kerang. Aromanya yang cenderung amis membuat ia tidak masuk dalam daftar makanan yang saya sukai. Apalagi katanya kerang ini bila hidup di habitat yang kurang baik, maka akan terkandung racun seperti merkuri di dalamnya. No way lah sama kerang.
Sebaliknya, istri saya gemar banget sama kerang. Apalagi sama kerang rebus sambal nanas yang penjualnya mudah sekali ditemukan di wilayah Aceh hingga Medan.
“Pokoknya kalau kita pulang ke Lhokseumawe abang harus cobain, dijamin ketagihan” kata istri saya
Di penghujung Juli 2020, kami berkesempatan untuk kembali ke Lhokseumawe, kota kecil di pesisir utara Aceh yang pernah berjaya dengan industri gas alamnya.
Di minggu sore yang agak mendung, kami jalan – jalan menuju pusat kota Lhokseumawe yang berjarak sekitar 12 kilometer dari tempat kami tinggal.
Tujuan kami adalah ke tempat penjual kerang rebus sambal nanas yang ada di Jalan Merdeka. Ancer – ancernya kedai New Jas Bret atau tepat di seberang Meuligoe Bupati Aceh Besar.
Sebenarnya tahun lalu saat libur lebaran, kami pernah mampir kesini. Namun karena suasana saat itu yang sangat ramai membuat kami membatalkan pesanan.
Nah kali ini, suasana kedai tidak begitu ramai. Kami segera memesan kerang rebus dan mendapatkan antrian ketiga.
Jika dilihat sekilas, proses pembuatan kerang rebus ini terbilang mudah. Kerang dara yang digunakan dalam menu ini ditaruh ke dalam keranjang kecil kemudian direbus ke dalam panci yang berisi air panas. Setelah beberapa saat kemudian kerang tersebut ditiriskan. Lalu dibuka satu per satu dan ditaruh ke dalam piring kecil. Tak ketinggalan, sambal nanas yang menjadi bumbu andalannya dituang ke dalam wadah mangkuk kecil. Dan selesai.
Pak Anwar, penjual kerang rebus yang melayani kami mengaku dalam sehari membutuhkan sekitar 20 kilogram kerang dara untuk diolah. Kerang dara ini ia peroleh dari wilayah Panton, Kabupaten Aceh Utara.
Saat saya tanya dari 20 kilogram kerang dara yang ia olah bisa menghasilkan berapa porsi kerang rebus, beliau menjawab tidak pasti.
“saya tak tahu bisa dapat berapa porsi, karena kerang – kerang ini kan ukurannya macam – macam” Kata Pak Anwar
Seporsi kerang rebus sambal nanas di kedai milik Pak Anwar dibanderol dengan harga Rp 17 ribu. Jika saya perhatikan, setiap pelanggan memesan dua porsi untuk disantap. Karena katanya sih satu porsi saya tidak akan cukup. Benar kah?
Akhirnya pesanan kami mendarat di hadapan kami.
Kerang rebus yang tersaji tidak begitu banyak, bahkan jari jemari saya masih mampu menghitungnya. Ya, hanya ada 10 kerang saja. Di samping piring yang berisi kerang rebus, tersedia mangkuk kecil yang berisikan sambal yang terbuat dari campuran kacang tanah yang telah ditumbuk, nanas, cabai, kecap serta bahan lainnya.
Cara makannya mudah saja, congkel kerang rebus menggunakan garpu kecil yang disediakan lalu cocolah daging kerang tersebut ke dalam sambal nanas dan tinggal lep saja ke mulut.

Bagaimana rasanya? Keparnoan saya akan kerang hilang dengan kehadiran si sambal nanas. Ya, kerangnya sih gitu aja rasanya, gag ada yang spesial karena ia hanya direbus begitu saja tanpa ditambahi apa – apa. Namun yang menjadi pembeda ya si sambal nanas ini.
Kenyalnya daging kerang berpadu dengan sambal nanas yang memiliki cita rasa asam pedas dan gurih. Klop banget pokoknya.
Tak terasa saya sudah pada kerang terakhir. Eh, padahal kan saya gag suka kerang, kenapa jadi suka? Jika ditanya apakah saya akan kembali menyantap kerang rebus ini, maka saya akan jawab. Tentu saja!
Catatan!
Kalau kamu mau coba kerang rebus sambal nanas buatan Pak Anwar, datanglah sore hari. Pak Anwar mulai membuka kedainya sejak pukul 3 sore hingga jam 1 malam. Kenapa datangnya harus sore? Soalnya kalau malam tempat ini ramai banget dan kamu harus bersabar untuk mendapatkan seporsi kerang rebus. Ga percaya? Buktiin aja sendiri.
